YEAH!!!
Nampak macam senang bukan?
- Write down the things you need to consider when preparing a lesson to teach how to cook rice for a class of preschool students (5 years old). Write your goal analisis, and your instructional analysis on what you need to teach.
The things that I need to consider is:
- Preparation
I have to plan well on what I will teach my students. So, I need to prepare for the teaching aids (materials and tools) to be used during the learning process (rice cooker, rice, water, ladle and etc). I also need to design the learning that I want my students to experience (can provide proper ingredients and cook the rice well). Besides that, I also need to set the learning outcomes after the learning session (meaningful learning and can relate to real life).
- Student’s background
Before starting the deeper steps, I need to know the background of my student that to be taught. Student age is the first aspect to consider. The age level should be known so that the student gets the learning experience that is compatible with their stage and more meaningful. After that, I also need to know some background about their family, whether 'their mother cooks using a gas stove or an electric rice cooker. It is also important to offset existing and new knowledge.
- Ability and disability
As a teacher, I need to know the abilities and disability of my students. I will ask questions related to the topics to be taught (any information about cooking the rice). The answers they give will highlight their personality, abilities and existing knowledge. If their personality is noticeable, it will make it easier for me to understand the learning needs and experience that my students want.
- Precautions
The other thing that I need to pay attention is the safety of students. Safety is important for learners to be more careful about doing things that can harm their self and the environment. I have to remind them of things to do and vice versa. For example, need to dry their hand before press the electrical switch.
- Evaluation of the observation
Assessment and observation are needed to ensure that every student has an effective learning experience and can apply it in everyday life.
Goal analysis
To teach and demonstrate 5-year-old students to cook rice using electric rice cookers perfectly and safely.
Instructional analysis
- As an introduction of the lesson, students are exposed to the knowledge of rice and the tools needed to cook rice properly.
- Students are taught and I demonstrate how to measure rice, wash rice, measure water level and so on. Rice and water level should be measured according to the correct ratio, eg: 1 ½ cup of water for 1 cup of rice.
- Students are reminded to wipe the outside of rice cooker after wash the rice and before putting it in an electric rice cooker.
- Plug in the switch and turn it on and press the cooking button on the rice cooker. Wait a few minutes until the cooking button turns warm.
- After that, observed and make sure the rice is done cooked and is not raw. Therefore the rice can be served to eat. Turn off the switch for security.
- Next, imagine you have to teach a class of adult students, say a group of students from Denmark, who have no experience in cooking rice, nor do they have a rice cooker. What needs to change in your instructional analysis?
What I need to change in the analysis of the structure while teaching the students is, I will demonstrate to them the traditional way to cook rice by using gas stoves. At the same time, I will introduce them to electric rice cookers and teach them how to use it. I would also say that, if they wanted to cook in a modern way, they would have to buy it at any electrical store. The use of the electric rice cooker not only saves time but it is a thing that can be used for a long time. So, the purchase is very worthwhile and useful.
